Christmas in February
On Saturday, 22nd February Befrienders and Befriendees from across East Dunbartonshire came together to celebrate Christmas (In February!).
The event was held at Kirkintilloch Miners Welfare, where over 60 people attended on the day - many of whom had been kindly offered transport via our volunteers who brought them to the event.
Upon entry, everyone received a free raffle ticket.
Guests were then seated and treated to a delicious two-course Christmas dinner catered for by John Murray Catering, followed by tea and coffee and some tasty tea cakes! The atmosphere felt festive as Christmas music played in the background.
Some got into the festive spirit by dressing for the occasion with tinsel, lights, and Christmas jumpers!
Following the meal our guests were treated to live music from Sean and Chantelle from band, Cloud 9, who played lots of hits such as; Walk the Line, Beautiful Sunday, Galway Girl, The Gambler, Sweet Caroline and a very impressive performance of Rattlin’ Bog that got everyone up dancing, singing and clapping along!
While the band took a well-earned break, the raffle was drawn. This saw everyone go home with a prize – thanks to generous donations from our supporters in the community.
We received some wonderful feedback from the day…
‘I can’t believe at my age I was up dancing! I felt like a teenager again!’
‘The food was superb! Compliments to the caterer!’
‘I’ve made new friends from this event today’

You may ask…Why Christmas in February?
Well, previous Christmas events had to be cancelled due to bad weather and had been re-scheduled to February. And, as it turned out a lot of our Befrienders and Befriendees actually preferred this and liked that there was more daylight for traveling in. We then decided future Christmas events would be in February (hence the name!)
